Sloppy Joe’s

Ingredients:

  • 1 TBSP avocado oil

  • 1 lb. ground beef (can replace with ground chicken or turkey)

  • 1/2 cup diced white onion

  • 1 cup diced bell pepper

  • 8-12 ounces of tomato sauce

  • 1 TBSP Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 TBSP hot pepper sauce (I get mine from Trader Joe's)

  • 1 TBSP maple syrup

  • 1 TSP garlic powder

  • Salt + pepper to taste

Directions:

  1. Heat 1 TBSP avocado oil in a large skillet on medium heat.

  2. Cook onion and bell pepper in oil for 5 minutes or until onion is translucent.

  3. Push onion and pepper mix aside in the skillet and add ground beef with garlic powder, salt and pepper; stirring frequently until meat is cooked through.

  4. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, hot pepper sauce, and maple syrup to beef and pepper mixture.

  5. Reduce heat to medium/low and stir every so often for about 15-20 minutes or until mixture has thickened.

  6. Enjoy with toasted Ezekiel bread (as pictured here), pita chips, pita bread, crackers, or whatever your carb preference!!

  7. Top with flaky sea salt and green onions for aesthetics
